TCA is a non-toxic chemical which has been used to perform skin peels for over a long period time. Unlike some other types of peels, TCA peels have been the additional advantage of creating a fresh natural appearing complexion, while preserving the normal skin color. For this reason, TCA peels are after referred to as "freshening peels".
Medium peels are usually performed with trichloroacetic acid. These peels are only performed once every couple of years. Medium peels have the same benefits as light peels and in addition remove large wrinkles and pre-cancerous skin lesions because of deeper penetration. The draw back is that a medium peel makes the skin on the face look like a severe sunburn for one week. This type of peel is also better than liquid nitrogen because it treats small pre-cancerous which are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Like a medium peel, liquid nitrogen also takes one week of recovery time but is only good for treating larger pre-cancerous skin lesions.
Alpha Hydroxyacids are considered as light peel, and have proven to be effective in treating dry skin, acne, liver or sun spots, lessening fine facial wrinkles, decreasing pore size, and improving skin texture. These are naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods. Light peels are usually performed in series of six peels, each peel three weeks apart. This type of peel leaves the skin with red glow which only last for a day or so.
 
TCA-AHA Peel, is a combination of TCA and AHAs, and can effectively improve many conditions, including:
1. Dull skin
2. Freckles
3. Brown Spots and Blotchy pigmentation (including the mask of pregnancy)
4. Sun Damage (including pre-cancerous lesions)
5. Acne scars.
6.Lighten tattoo
TCA peels. A full-face TCA peel should take no more than 15 minutes. The solution may sting when it is first applied, but the feeling will pass quickly. Two or more TCA peels may be needed to obtain the desired result. The treatments may be spaced out over several months.

What is the TCA Peel?
The TCA is an in office procedure designed to improve the appearance and health of your skin. After priming the skin for 1 month with Retin-A, a low 12.5% or medium 25% concentration of the chemical, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to effectively remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin from the face or other parts of the body. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin’s own clarity and tightness to resurface.
What does the procedure consist of?
The TCA Peel is a quick, relatively simple and highly tolerable procedure that in most cases does not require sedation. Application of the TCA Peel takes about 15 minutes. You will experience a mild to medium burning sensation that lasts two to four minutes. Immediately after the procedure, your skin will be frosted (white) looking then will turn back to your natural coloring and finally to a very pink or red color. Within the first 24hrs you will see the skin turning brown and leathery and quite unattractive. After the procedure, you will experience light swelling, and your skin will begin to peel within 3 to 4 days. This peeling will continue over the next several days and should be healed in an average of 5 to 10 days.
How will my skin look after recovery?
When your skin has completely finished peeling, you will immediately notice the dramatic results of your newly improved complexion. Your skin’s appearance will continue to improve for the next 4 to 6 weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking.

Clients need to be aware that by using glycolic acid and other peeling products, your skin will be more photo-sensitive than normal. It is recommended that you use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, preferably SPF 30 or higher, after using skin peel products. The FDA recommends using an SPF for one week post-peel.
